2010-11 Building Renovation Campaign

Our historic church building, the oldest meeting house in continuous use in the state of Vermont, is one that we all take for granted as the anchor to the Thetford Hill green, and being likely one of the oldest if not the oldest building in town, is something we all want to preserve, Can you imagine Thetford Hill without it? In addition to worshiping within its walls, most of us in town have spent significant time there - Maple Leaf, piano lessons, Thetford Academy Baccalaureate, AA meetings, rehearsals, concerts by the Thetford Chamber Singers, TA students, Village Harmony, Vermont folksingers, and classical ensembles, plays, weddings, funerals, meetings, hymn sings, speakers, and bell ringing on the 4th of July...

The 225th anniversary of our historic church building is coming up in 2012, and the town of Thetford celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2011. In honor of these events, we have launched a fundraising effort to renovate and repair our church building. The shutters have already been repaired thanks to a generous donation earlier this year. The roof has been replaced, along with selected roof supports, and we have undertaken the first phase of the campaign to raise matching funds for a grant towards this. The next phase will be to solicit donations and pledges towards a total goal of $60,000 for exterior painting, including the clock and steeple, redesign and repair of the roadside space in front of the church, interior repairs including an evaluation and possible repair of the sanctuary ceiling, and other much needed attention to a well-used, well loved space.

We hope you will help us as we do our part to preserve this town treasure for future generations to enjoy!

To make a donation, send a check made out to First Congregational Church in Thetford (or just FCCT), and in the note space at the bottom left corner, include the note "Building Fund". Checks can be mailed to:
